Runza or “Cornhusker hot-pockets) as another PCV called them: (I eat them with Ketchup)
This is a wonderful taste of home for me, they are know as Runzas and even have a fast food place named after them. They sell them at all home Husker event!
Dough-2 C. warm water
2 pkg active dry yeast
1/2 C. sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 C margarine, melted and cooled
6 1/2 C. flour
Filling-1 1/2 lbs hamburger
1/2 C. onion
3 C. shredded cabbage
1/2 C. water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper and dash of tabasco to taste (use more if you like them more spicy)
(To make Veg, add more cabbage onions and other vegs, like carrots,peppers)
Mix water, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir until dissolved. Add egg and melted margarine. Stir in flour. Put in frig for four hours or longer Roll dough into an oblong shape and cut into 16 squares.
Brown hamburger and onion. Add cabbage, seasonings and water. Simmer 15-20 min. Set aside and cool completely before putting on dough.
Pull four sides up and press edges together.
Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 20 min or until little brown
You can freeze before you bake them and bake as needed for about 30 min. (They make great little lunches during the week and heat up great)
