List of memories of Husker football

Today is Gameday. I miss husker football and well football in general. I thought I would share my list of memories of Husker football for me. As I’m listen to the radio online from Bulgaria here you go:

Listening to Husker football on the radio. We would sit in the living room and lay on the floor. Getting to drink pop. and eating cheese salsa dip.

Yelling at the TV. When I was older I would go downstairs and sit on the couch and yell at the TV.

Getting our tickets. When I was little my dad would have us go get our tickets since it was cheaper for us to do it and I also gain may skills from it. Now I can barter like crazy.

Gameday in NE. Driving into Lincoln and the whole interstate is full of fans and red. All radios and TV are turned to it. the Stadium full of red and listen to the band play. and Yes people plan weddings around them.

Food. I would love to get the food. Getting the drinks in the cups and keeping them. then going down and getting the food or from the food guys. Runza’s and pizza. all Nebraska food even theĀ  Fairbury hot-dogs.

Tunnel Walk. Not only at the game put on the radio/TV it still gives me chills every time.

Crushes. Not going to lie we all had them. My friends and I would put their numbers on our notebooks and make jokes out of it all.

I can’t wait to go to a game again and be able to listen and watch them again. Always a Husker!

Sod/Wood house

Not this far but having a cow on the house might be good

Ever since I was a little kid I have found sod houses cool. I might be from living on the “prairie” and hearing stories of them or driving by the spot that was my great grandma’s old sod house, but now it because they are not only great/safe but environmental friendly. I mean I don’t want a totally sod house but parts of it or back part in the hill. Then I went to some of my environmental class in college and learned of new more modern ways to build a environment friendly house, with logs houses, taking whole trees, doom shape, a type with sod or using natural parts of the land.
Now I don’t know if its because I loved my childhood with legos or what but I really want to build and design my own house, I know it will be some time before I have the money to do it but whenever I read or find something about it, it gets me going again. So when I found the New York Times article on building with whole trees, it reminded me of houses I have seen before.
I keep reading all these articles about how in 20 to 50 years we just will not have enough stuff to keep living the way we do, and we need to change that. I think houses are a big part of this, we as Americans need to build better houses that use not only sunlight but buy and use solar heater or panels. Also ones that use the heat and cool better and also smarter and smaller.

Gardens I think are also a big part of this, I have started container garden, which any one with a window can do. Its a great way to learn basics and grow fresh herbs or vegs. We need to have more community and household garden in American, its starting to become okay and popular again but it needs to be more. Children need to learn where their food comes from and how it grows. I see that here, because my orphanage doesn’t have a garden(which I tried to work on) and the mothers don’t grow vegetables, the children don’t know. Which is sad because Bulgaria has some of the best household garden I have seen., the knowledge is getting lost.

I think Americans are worried/scared to go back to the “old ways” but we forgot they worked for hundred up to thousands of years, and as we are finding out our new and “modern” are not working, so even if its not cool or time wasteful, it needs to happen. Yeah, maybe not with cattle on the top of the house but starting to look back, the NYT’s article talks about that and whole trees is a great step both back and forward!
So now you can start dreaming of your dream house as a “environmentally friend with a garden and greenhouse” type because we need to start some where again and I believe the 20s somethings can do it.
