Artifacts leaving Bulgaria because of who?

Archaeologists, collectors and the authorities are locked in a row of responsibility
Bulgarian authorities are to clamp down on the “tomb-raiding mafia” which works in conjunction with scientists, or, archaeologists, and is involved in the illegal sale and export of Bulgarian national treasures, the Bulgarian national television (BNT) reported on August 18 2010.
According to the report, scientists would tip off the tomb-raiders as to where they ought to dig for antiques. Once they find archaeological artifacts, they would be paid anywhere from a 100 to 500 leva per item. The items in question would then be sold at a price 10 times higher to private collectors in Bulgaria, Europe or beyond.
This is just the next thing to be happening here in Bulgaria with Archaeology that is making it into the news. They really need to get it together so that people can not only use the artifacts to study and so people learn about Bulgaria. But just so it can be a respected place to work and study. This is getting out of control, someone needs to take control of all this madness. Or it will forever be lost. People don’t understand great they got the artifacts back from places but it does no good if its taken out of the site, you need the site for the context. So the sites need protection while digging and after. Maybe back off the stamps and get working on the pay of the people so they don’t sell things off, make them want to protect the sites, their work and study, along with trying to get help from international programs from around the world.
This past weekend I went to visit the first capital of Bulgaria and like normal archaeology in Bulgaria it wasn’t to bad, but not keep up at all. So I don’t care who does but some one please step up or well you will not only lose artifacts, history, and yes Bulgaria its your history along with the rest of the Balkans so come on….you are now part of something called the EU…act like it!
